The mountains and valleys of Cameron County are the perfect setting for all types of outdoor activities. In spring and summer you can hike, bike, fish, swim, canoe, camp, bird-watch, sit by the stream, view the eagles at Stevenson Dam and study nature everywhere. Autumn brings fantastic foliage and the hunting seasons. Snowmobiling and cross-country skiing are favorite winter activities.
There are three Pennsylvania state parks that are partly in Cameron County.
Bucktail State Park Natural Area is a 75-mile (121-km) scenic route along Pennsylvania Route 120 stretching from Lock Haven in Clinton County to Emporium the county seat of Cameron County. Both Sinnemahoning State Park and Sizerville State Park straddle the Cameron and Potter County line. The West Creek Rail Trail has been built on the abandoned rail corridor between Emporium and St. Mary's in Elk County. It provides a paved surface with guard rails and is suitable for hiking or biking in the warm seasons or snowmobiling in winter. The Fred Woods Trail offers a 4.57 mile loop of blazed trail with scenic valley views and a challenging section running through unique rock formations. The trailhead is accessed off Mason Hill Road above Driftwood, PA.
You won't find huge motel/hotel complexes with 50 floors, instead there are small overnight accommodations where the owners will call you by name and cater to your needs. You can even bring your own camper or tent and "chill out" in the Cameron State Forest, Sizerville or Sinnemahoning State Parks. While packing your gear for a visit to Cameron County remember your camera. Some of the best photographic shots of a lifetime will be found here.
