Pennsylvania Wilds!
Only a few hours drive from most of the Northeastern United States it is wooded Appalachian Mountains creased by pristine creeks and streams and sprinkled with clear mountain lakes. The geography is mountainous with high peaks and deep valleys.
Clearfield County is a wonderland full of recreation, private campgrounds and state parks. It abounds in easy access points to streams and trails, in wayside picnic parks, friendly inns, quality family restaurants and stimulating natural attractions. Old railroad beds are now hiking, snowmobiling, bicycle and skiing trails. The major forest roads provide access into some of the best wilderness hunting and fishing areas in the Eastern United States.
The mountainous terrain of the county made traffic difficult for early settlers. Various Native American paths and trails crossing the area were used intermittently by settlers, invading armies, and escaped slaves travelling north along the Underground Railroad. A major feature located in Bloom Township, Pennsylvania within the county is known as Bilger's rocks and exhibits fine examples of exposed sandstone bedrock that was created during the formation of the Appalachian Mountains.
The highest point east of the Mississippi on Interstate 80, which runs from New York City to San Francisco, CA ), is here in Clearfield County.
