Many of the
County Links above will keep you specifically in or near
Tionesta and Forest County in the
Pennsylvania Wilds.
Within the borders of Pennsylvania's least populated county, there are no traffic lights, no four lane highways, no radio stations and no daily newspapers. But for outdoor enthusiasts, what Forest County does have is unsurpassed beauty and natural splendor.
The Allegheny National Forest (ANF) is Pennsylvania's only National Forest. The forest is approximately 517,000 acres and includes land in Elk, Forest, McKean and Warren counties in the northwestern corner of the state. About 463,000 acres are forested; 42,000 acres are non-forest; and 11,000 acres are covered by water (primarily the Allegheny Reservoir). Along the wild and scenic Allegheny River at the junction of Routes 36 & 62, browse in a specialty shop, dine at one of several restaurants, spend the night in a campsite or bed and breakfast, enjoy a round of golf or take a canoe trip.
Just off Route 36, on the Forest River at Cook Forest State Park, stay at a rustic cabin, lodge or motel. Take a lazy canoe ride, photograph native deer, try gem panning or mini-golf, shop, enjoy dinner and live theater or take a craft class.
At Marienville, gateway to the Allegheny National Forest on Route 66, enjoy four seasons of outdoor adventure. Dine at a local restaurant, camp, stay at a cabin, hotel or historic bed and breakfast. Relax in the town square gazebo or take a dip in the community pool. Ride the train. Hunt, fish or hike, ride the ATV trails, enjoy snowmobiling or cross-country skiing.
